Committees

In SGA, there are many committees, and they are divided into these categories:

Standing- Select Committees

There are three Standing-Select Committees:

  1. Elections Committee is responsible for planning and managing the annual elections of SGA so that the procedures are carried out effectively as defined by the Constitution. This committee is chaired by Attorney General.
  2. Small Clubs Allocations Committee is responsible for distributing funds from the Small Clubs account established each year by the Student Activity Fee Allocations Recommendations Committee to student organizations classified as Small Clubs. It reviews requests for funding and determines how much is appropriate for the club to meet its specific goal. This committee is chaired by the Treasurer and Finance Director and is comprised of Senators.
  3. The Rules Committee is responsible for ensuring the legitimacy of the legislative process. It corrects all semantic errors in proposed legislation, catalogs all legislation presented before the Senate, and rectifies the Constitution in accordance with approved Constitutional. This committee is chaired by the President pro tempore and is comprised of Senators. 

General Assembly Committees

There are six General Assembly Committees that are open to all UGA students and faculty:

  1. Academic Affairs Committee is responsible for dealing with matters concerning academic and instructional items and issues
  2. External Affairs Committee is responsible for dealing with matters concerning students in the local government, Athens community, and beyond.
  3. Multicultural Affairs Committee is responsible for dealing with matters pertinent to the multicultural communities at the University of Georgia.
  4. Communications Committee is responsible for the positive advertisement and promotion focused on and for various publics here at UGA and beyond by discovering, defining, and articulating the roles, purposes, and activities taken on by SGA.
  5. Student Life Committee is responsible for dealing with matters concerning non-academic and co-curricular items and issues. The Director of Athletic Affairs and Director of Community Service sit on this committee as well.
  6. Special Programs Committee is responsible for coordinating all special projects, events, and programs related to SGA including, but not limited to, Better Relations Day with Auburn University, the 25th Anniversary of SGA, the Freshman Convocation ceremony and various community service initiatives
 

Anisha Hegde

Tasked with handling matters concerning academic items and issues. The Director of Academic Affairs also serves as the Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee. Reports to the Chief of Staff. 


Nick Mizaur
Director of External Affairs

Responsible for matters concerning students in the local and state government. He or she also serves as the Chair of the External Affairs Committee, which is comprised of a Director of State Relations and a Director of Athens-Clarke County relations. Reports to the Chief of Staff.  

 

Jaime M. Conner
Director of Athens-Clarke County Relations

Member of the External Affairs Committee who is responsible for attending City Council meetings, ACC Chamber of Commerce meetings, and facilitating dialogue between the organization and the County. Reports to the Director of External Affairs.

Director of State Relations

Member of the External Affairs Committee who organizes, executes, and handles relations at the state capitol. Reports to the Director of External Affairs.

Michelle Noorali
Assistant Director of Student Life

This person will serve as a member of the Student Life Committee as well as assist the Director of Student Life in his or her duties. This position can include, but is not limited to, taking minutes of every committee meeting, running subcommittee meetings, and attending meetings with the Director of Student Life and campus administrators. Reports to the Director of Student Life.

Member of the Cabinet tasked handling matters concerning co-curricular items and issues dealing with the Intercultural Community. Also serves as the Chairmen of the Multicultural Affairs Committee. Reports to the Chief of Staff.

The senior public relations member of the Executive Staff. Responsible for ensuring that the organization’s message and ideas are delivered efficiently and successfully. The Director of Communications manages a communications staff that includes the Press Secretary, Director of Advertising, and Historian. Reports to the Chief of Staff. 

 

Hadley Dreibelbis
Assistant Director of Communications

The person holding this position will serve as a member of the Communication Team and assist the Director of Communications in his or her duties. This position can include, but is not limited to, taking minutes of every committee meeting, running a committee meeting if the Director is absent, and assisting in the general needs of the committee. Reports to the Director of Communications.

 

Ann Taylor Holley
Director of Advertising

Member of the Executive Branch who is responsible for all advertising done by SGA. Responsible for the design of all SGA products, logos, and letterhead. Must be willing to assist the Director of Communication in his/her duties. This position requires graphic design skills. Please bring samples of your previous work to your interview. Reports to the Director of Communications.

 

Sandra Godina
Director of Special Programs

Coordinates all special projects, events, and programs related to SGA including, but not limited to, Better Relations Day with Auburn University, the 25th Anniversary of SGA, the Freshman Convocation ceremony and various community service initiatives. Will appoint a committee of individuals to assist in planning and implementing each event.  Reports to the Chief of Staff. 


Sarah Hughes
Assistant Director of Special Programs

This person will assist the Director of Special Programs in planning and coordinating Special Programs committee meetings, taking minutes at committee meetings, serving as a general committee member, and working all special programs. The position is flexible and may include more duties than the ones listed above. Reports to the Director of Special Programs.

BRD and 25th Anniversary Coordinator

For the fall, the annual Better Relations Day event will be held at UGA between UGA and Auburn University’s Student Government Associations. This event is structured to establish good sportsmanship and allow for an exchange of ideas between SGAs, as well as multiple organizations on campus. For the spring, planning for the 25th Anniversary of the Student Government Association will begin. The person responsible for this position will contact alumni, gather SGA history, and plan the actual inauguration festivities. The person coordinating these events will have a team working with them. Reports to the Director of Special Programs.

Serves on the External Affairs committee and assists the committee in its mission to connect and advocate on behalf of the student body to external organizations. This may include, but is not limited to, creating petitions, organizing lobbying trips, and connecting to the student body to find out exactly what would best benefit them.
